Hannah Ma

Student Counsellor in Training

Hannah is a student counsellor in training at Amindset and is currently completing her Master of Counselling at Monash University. Her path into counselling began in an unexpected place: while studying Industrial Design at SCAD, she was deeply moved by an alum who created a portable water filter for communities in need. That experience sparked a longstanding commitment to work that genuinely improves people’s lives, whether through thoughtful design, youth development, or therapeutic support.

For the past several years, Hannah has worked closely with young people in Hong Kong where she co-founded a program grounded in Positive Psychology. In this work, she has designed and facilitated experiences that help youths build self-awareness, emotional literacy, and practical career pathways, offering hope in a landscape that can often feel overwhelming or uncertain.

Hannah’s emerging counselling approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply person-centred. She believes there is no single method that fits everyone and is committed to finding what works for each individual, at their own pace and in their own language. Drawing from Positive Psychology, elements of design thinking, and her training in counselling, she focuses on creating safe, respectful spaces where clients can slow down, make sense of their experiences, and gently move toward healing and flourishing.

Having lived in China, Hong Kong, and the United States, Hannah brings a nuanced understanding of cross-cultural identities and the tension that can arise between external expectations and inner needs. She is experienced in supporting adolescents and young adults who feel stuck, burnt out, or “not enough,” as well as individuals navigating life transitions, questions of purpose, or a sense of hopelessness they find hard to name. Above all, she aims to meet each person where they are, with curiosity, compassion, and the belief that their story does not end where their pain begins.
