Steve Fennelly is a compassionate and empathetic student counsellor at AMindset in Hong Kong. Born in the UK and a Hong Kong resident for over two decades, Steve offers a rich understanding of both international and local experiences.

Steve’s background includes extensive experience in primary education, where he developed strong communication, pastoral care, and leadership skills. This experience has provided him with a solid foundation for his transition to counselling, a field he is deeply passionate about. Steve has extensive experience working with children from 4-11 in both academic and social and emotional support in the primary school context. Additionally, Steve is a football coach to children of 4-6 years old and supports players and families in matters concerning child welfare and child protection.

Presently, Steve is furthering his expertise through a Master of Counselling at Monash University. His training encompasses various therapeutic approaches, including Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a specific focus on integrating mindfulness techniques to enhance emotional regulation and promote positive change. Steve is also expanding his skills in couples therapy through the Gottman Method.

Steve believes that the Rogerian core conditions of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard are essential for a successful therapeutic relationship. He also believes that we all need a safe space to work through our concerns. Having personally navigated a career change and recovery from a serious health event, Steve has found that having this space to discuss and adapt emotions and enhance strategies for emotional regulation has been essential to thriving in today’s world.

He is committed to providing a supportive and empowering therapeutic environment. His empathy, combined with his diverse background and growing expertise, makes him a valuable asset to AMindset and the clients he serves.
